Questions for an enrolling student at

BUZZ DURKIN’S UECHI KARATE SCHOOL

  1. Will you be living in the area for the next year or so?

    • As good as we are, a level of commitment from both the teacher and the student/student’s parents is a vital component to the student’s success.

    • With the successful merging of our virtual classrooms (CLICK HERE for more information), we now have more options for students who cannot reliably stay in the area. That being said, it would be good to talk about that before a course of enrollment is chosen.

  2. Are there any issues we should be aware of?

    • The more complete of a mental/physical picture we have of you, the more successfully we will be able to help you achieve your goals. Please share what you feel comfortable sharing with us.

  3. Can you attend class of twice per week?

    • Through our decades of experience, we have found that regular training of twice per week is a good balance between student’s memory retention and lessening the likelihood for burning out.

    • During times when a student is getting ready for something special (i.e. testing for the next rank), an increased tempo is recommended. As soon as the event is done, however, we recommend going back to a regular twice per week.

  4. Do you have a place where you can practice?

    • At the beginning stages of the training, regular practice of 5 to 10 minutes per day in instrumental to a student’s success.

    • As students move along, adding other parts of the training (i.e. training equipment) will help enhance the experience.

  5. Are you comfortable with our student creeds?

    • This is the essence of our training philosophy (CLICK HERE to review).

  6. Are you willing to commit to a goal to develop greater self-discipline and improve your overall health and well-being through our karate program?

    • Martial Artists train specifically to improve themselves. Your commitment to this goal for yourself is essential to your success.
